Eco-Innovators:  

Sustainability in Atlantic Canada

Chris Benjamin, a Halifax-based journalist, columnist and author of Eco-Innovators: Sustainability in Atlantic Canada (published by Nimbus), has teamed up with Halifax filmmaker and environmentalist Kevin Moynihan, to make a series of short video documentaries based on Chris' award-winning book. Eco-Innovators features Atlantic Canadian businesspeople, activists, farmers and fishers who are working to build a sustainable, local, vibrant and resilient economy. Conserving the environment is at the core of what they do.

So far, three videos have been produced, with another in the works. See the three videos, Off the Hook, Local Source, and Green Island Getaway, below.

This 8 minute documentary examines the "Off the Hook" program, a Community Supported Fishery program managed by the Ecology Action Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Fish Harvester, Beau Gillis of Freeport, Nova Scotia uses a long line technique and a 32 foot boat to catch fish for subscribers who really appreciate the fresh fish and a chance to meet the fish harvester.
"Local Source" is the 3rd in a series based on Chris Benjamin's award winning book, "Eco Innovators - Sustainability in Atlantic Canada. "Local Source" features the store by the same name in North-End Halifax, Nova Scotia owned by Sean Gallagher who explains why it is important to buy local.
